Gorkhas of Nagaland |
It's International Day of Mother Tongue today!May our Nepali mother language, markers of our diversity, flourish in every way. Nepali language is also spoken in many parts of India especially in North Bengal, Dehradun in Uttarakhand and also in large part of North East India.
Did you know
There are over 100 languages spoken in Nepal. Yet most children are taught in Nepali and/or English. I strongly believe that young children of Gorkhas of Nagaland should be taught in their mother tongue.
History of International Mother Language Day
International Mother Language Day has been observed every year since 2000 to promote linguistic and cultural diversity and multilingualism. The idea to celebrate native languages was an initiative of Bangladesh and was approved at the 1999 UNESCO General Conference.
Now it's a time to introspect and be thankful to all those who worked hard to preserve and enrich our language. Special remembrance and gratitude to all 'Bhasha Sangramis' in the context of Nepali language recognition in the Eighth Schedule of the Indian Constitution.
भाषा हाम्रो प्राण हो।
